Commentary on "Joab: David's Weak Strongman"

Day 4: Tuesday, November 16, 2010 - Joab the Politician

 

Observations

There is a statement made in today’s lesson that carries an idea that is from the pit of hell. The authors of this lesson have been teaching conscience-led behavioral modification in order to live the life God would have us live as opposed to Spirit-led living. They state the following: “Joab had become immune to God’s love in his own life.”

The problem with this statement within the context of this study is that it carries the idea that right behavior leads us to God’s love being actualized in our lives. The truth is there is no right action that we can do to earn God’s love. Just as there is no wrong act that we can do to make us immune to God’s love.

The Bible teaches us that while we were enemies of God, living out sinful lives, and carrying out the passions of our flesh, God was rich in mercy and love towards us. Read Ephesians 2:1-10 to  get the depth of how much God’s love towards us has little to do with our ability do acts of righteousness towards Him. Once we are in His love, nothing can separate us from His love.
