Commentary on "The Man of God: Obedience Is Not Optional"
Day 6: Thursday, December 2, 2010 - Twin Temptations
The man of God faced two temptations. With Jeroboam he got an A grade, with the older prophet he got an F. What can we learn from this that’s important?
The greatest threat to our lives is not knowing who owns us. If we don’t know for certain who owns us than we are in a very dangerous position, we are in a position where we can be conned by the Father of Lies.
This older prophet was NOT working for God until after the bread and water was shared, it was then that he TRULY was used by God. God spoke through and sent out Judgment against the first prophet.
In fact after the first prophet was killed, he seemed to have made a commitment to work for God. And after burying the younger prophet asked his children to bury himself at the same location when he would die.
To me what this story is all about is a second chance to get it right for the older prophet, and it seems the older prophet did put God on the throne and let Him have control.
The message is that God is never through with trying to get your attention and to get you to give up the throne of your life and heart to Him.
