Day 2: Sunday, August 29, 2010 - Paul's Burden

 

Romans 9:1-5

1. In these verses Paul wrestles with the apparent failure of Israel. List the advantages Israel had which are mentioned by Paul.

2. With these advantages, why did Israel fail to recognize Jesus and the promised Messiah and yet the Gentiles, who did not have these advantages, received Him? Read Romans 9:30-32 and respond to each of the following:
 

1. Did the meticulous observance of the law help Israel to recognize and accept Jesus?
   
    
2. Does it seem fair to you that the Gentiles who did not keep the law were able to accept Christ simply by faith and be saved?
   
    
3. Did following the moral principles found in the Old Testament cause Israel to reject their Messiah?
   
    
4. Did following the ritual laws found the Old Testament cause Israel to reject their messiah? (See John 19:30-32; Luke 23:53-56).
   
    
5. ____ True or ____ False “Once Christ had come, following the ritual laws which pointed forward to Him actually became a hindrance to Christ’s acceptance. The people were so focused on the ‘shadow’ that they rejected the Reality to which the shadows pointed.”
