Commentary on "Resilience"
Day 2: Sunday, February 13, 2011 - The Patience of Job
James 5:10-11 (Holman Christian Standard Bible)
Brothers, take the prophets who spoke in the Lord's name as an example of suffering and patience. See, we count as blessed those who have endured. You have heard of Job's endurance and have seen the outcome from the Lord: the Lord is very compassionate and merciful.
Job’s endurance was spectacular in that he had to not only endure the tough times, but his not so helpful friends as well. He never lost his faith in God although early one even his wife told him to “curse God and die”.
You’ll notice that I mentioned that Job had faith, and he kept His faith. Where did His faith come from? I think his faith came from the very same person who gives us resilience. The Bible says that our hearts are deceitful above all things, if that’s true than how can we have faith? How can we trust in our heart that we have faith? How can we claim or even conceive we have faith?
Faith is a gift from God. We have our faith because God gives it to us. Our resilience comes from God also because God is the giver of all good things, however the truth is even more spectacular than that.
