Commentary on "Clothed in Christ"

ANE EDWARDS

Day 7: Friday June 24, 2011 - Further Study

OVERVIEW

Today's lesson ends by describing the Great Controversy ended:

“All will be a happy, united family, clothed with the garments of praise and thanksgiving—the robe of Christ’s righteousness. All nature in its surpassing loveliness will offer to God a constant tribute of praise and adoration. The world will be bathed in the light of heaven. The years will move on in gladness. The light of the moon will be as the light of the sun, and the light of the sun will be sevenfold greater than it is now. Over the scene the morning stars will sing together, and the sons of God will shout for joy, while God and Christ will unite in proclaiming, ‘There shall be no more sin, neither shall there be any more death.’”—Ellen G. White, My Life Today, p. 348. (underlined emphasis is mine)

OBSERVATIONS

Why is Ellen White describing a sun and moon in heaven, when Revelation teaches there will be no need for either.

"The city does not need the sun or the moon to shine on it, for the glory of God gives it light, and the Lamb is its lamp." —Rev. 21:23

"There will be no more night. They will not need the light of a lamp or the light of the sun, for the Lord God will give them light. And they will reign for ever and ever." —Rev. 22:5

Interesting to note is how Rev. 22 ends with this warning:

"I warn everyone who hears the words of the prophecy of this scroll: If anyone adds anything to them, God will add to that person the plagues described in this scroll. And if anyone takes words away from this scroll of prophecy, God will take away from that person any share in the tree of life and in the Holy City, which are described in this scroll. —Rev. 22-18-19 (NIV)

SUMMARY

  1. There will be no need for a sun or moon in heaven.
  2. Revelation offers a stern warning to those who add to its words.
