Day 7: Friday, September 14, 2012 - Further Study

I will not spend time evaluating the quotes of Adventist prophetess, Ellen G. White, which the author used to end his weeks lesson and to punctuate his insidious discrediting of the word of God in the prior days lesson. Instead, I want to admonish you in love to not regard lightly the Words of God as Jon Paulien and other Adventist leaders would have you do.

Scripture says that a time will come when people will choose teachers over God’s word as their source for authority. The command to Timothy from the Apostle Paul was to “preach the word” in order to combat the lies of the teacher’s myths. If the word of God (the sword of the Spirit! [Eph 6:17]) exposes and works against these teachers, then it makes sense that these teachers must discredit it any way they can!

I charge you in the presence of God and of Christ Jesus, who is to judge the living and the dead, and by his appearing and his kingdom: preach the word; be ready in season and out of season; reprove, rebuke, and exhort, with complete patience and teaching. For the time is coming when people will not endure sound teaching, but having itching ears they will accumulate for themselves teachers to suit their own passions, and will turn away from listening to the truth and wander off into myths. 2 Timothy 4:1-4 (ESV)

This weeks lesson provided many examples of one of Adventist’s most highly regarded leaders (a man who is currently the dean of religious studies at Loma Linda University) misusing scripture or inserting Adventist doctrines born of their prophetess into the meaning of the pages of God’s word.

For today, I encourage you to go to Revelation 20:1-10, and find the exact words of scripture that teach that the Earth will be desolate during the millennium as Jon Pauline claims it does. I assure you, you will not find those words there. Then, end your reading with the words of the Faithful and True in the passage given below.

I warn everyone who hears the words of the prophecy of this scroll: If anyone adds anything to them, God will add to that person the plagues described in this scroll. And if anyone takes words away from this scroll of prophecy, God will take away from that person any share in the tree of life and in the Holy City, which are described in this scroll. Revelation 22:18-19 (NIV)

Please, dear reader, do not regard God’s word lightly. Consider with prayer and care what teachers and teachings you will uphold to your children and others. You will one day give an account to the Lord Jesus Christ, and you will not get away with the same excuse Adam gave when he gave an account to God for his own sin that evening in the garden, “This woman you gave me made me do it...”
