Commentary on "Justification by Faith Alone"
Day 7: Friday, October 21, 2011 - Further Study
Overview
Today’s lesson consists, as usual on Fridays, of EGW quotations followed by questions and a summary statement. The lesson ends with a reasonable-sounding conclusion: “It is only by accepting what God has done for us in Christ that sinners can be justified in His sight.”
Observations
Once again, this lesson fails to address the underlying unbiblical worldview that shapes how Adventists interpret “justification by faith”. The very fact that it uses EGW to drive home the point that one must believe in Christ reveals that she is the lens through which they understand this subject.
I challenge the reader to stop reading EGW and instead read Scripture only for at least one month. Read the entire book of Galatians through (only six chapters) every day for one month, praying that God will teach you what He knows He wants you to understand.
Lay aside your presuppositions and surrender to Him your worldview and your beliefs and ask Him to be all you need. Ask Him to teach you truth and reality through His word.
He is faithful. He will reveal Himself to you and show you what is real.
He does not disappoint.
