Commentary on "Uriah: Faith of a Foreigner"

GABRIEL PROKSCH

Day 7: Friday, November 5, 2010 - Further Study

Overview

As is usual, today’s lesson consists of a long quotation from Ellen White and ends with a set of questions for discussion. Again, the focus of today’s lesson is David, not Uriah, and the main subject is avoiding “self-confidence and self-exaltation” in contrast with David.

Observations

Today’s lesson again misses the foundational point: none of the issues of loyalty, self-centeredness, and faith can be addressed without first dealing with the underlying spiritual death that is the natural state of man and the need to be born of the Spirit and made alive (John 3:3-5; Eph. 2:1-6).

If you have not placed your faith in the Lord Jesus as your Savior and Substitute who paid the price for you sin, this would be a good time to do so. “Believe in the Lord Jesus Christ, and you will be saved,” said Paul and Silas to the Philippian jailor (Acts 16:31).

He is faithful. He will guide your life step-by-step when you have become alive in Him.
