Commentary on "The Fruit of the Spirit: The Essence of Christian Character"
Day 5: Wednesday, March 24, 2010
Overview
“How can a person know when his or her love for the world has superseded his or her love for God? What signs should we look for?” (Adult Teachers Sabbath School Bible Study Guide, Page 156)
Observations
I already have dealt with this issue. It is futile to berate ourselves for failing to live up to God’s perfection. We neither surprise nor disappoint Him when we fail. Instead, we are called to the following: “So I say, live by the Spirit, and you will not gratify the desires of the sinful nature [flesh]. For the sinful nature [flesh] desires what is contrary to the Spirit, and the Spirit what is contrary to the sinful nature [flesh]. They are in conflict with each other, so that you do not do what you want. But if you are led by the Spirit, you are not under law.” (Galatians 5:16-18)
In short, if we live by the Spirit, then the world will not be a challenge.
